Mariano Ignacio Prado

Mariano Ignacio Prado (1826-1901) was twice the President of Peru, from (1865-67, 1878-79). When the War of the Pacific with Chile broke out in 1879, Peru's capital, Lima, fell to Chile's army during Prado's presidentifal term. After some months of dismal failure and defeat, Nicolás de Piérola launched a successful coup d'etat that ended Prado's term. Prado later left for Europe and did not return for many years.
