The Campus Freethought Alliance is an organization started by the
Council for Secular Humanism in 1996 in order to reach out to university and high school students. CFA provides funding, speakers/debators, literature, and
other resources to student groups that affiliate. In 2001, as a result of
a dispute over management of the organization as a whole, a number of student groups organized a competing group, the Secular Student Alliance, with largely the same ends -- to promote secular humanism as an alternative to religious lifestyle and politics. However, as neither organization demands exclusivity in
association, a large number of groups maintain ties to each group. CFA is managed by director DJ Grothe .
