Brightspark

Brightspark is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) or Learning Management System (LMS) for colleges, universities and schools.

Brightspark is a relatively new addition to the market compared to leading competitors Blackboard, WebCT, Learnwise and others, with version 1.0 being released in early 2004. March 2005 saw the release of version 2.0.

Brightspark includes the standard features expected from a modern VLE, including provision of online learning materials, online community facilities (threaded discussions and chat room support), communication and reporting aids and SCORM support.

Brightspark attempts to differentiate itself through focusing on ease-of-use for staff, and appeal to students. The result is a relatively modern user interface and wide range of presentation options and built in clip art. All presentation is abstracted from content via use of Cascading Style Sheets.
